Working Hard for the Family

Today, I was reflecting upon my job at the church and the role my wife plays in the home and I thought it quite ironic that I often say that I "work" and my wife doesn't. When I go to "work," I hang out with fun people, have engaging conversations, talk on the phone with my feet kicked up on my desk, get paid to study the Bible and talk to people about it, plan adventurous trips, and I have the difficult task of ministering to people in coffee shops, restaurants, and occasionally on the golf course! When my wife stays at home, engaging conversations are replaced with baby talk. She can spend all day cleaning the house and make little progress, thanks to our energetic son whose favorite games include pulling every book off of the bookcase. Between picking up one of the 347 toys Will owns, she feeds him, bathes him, and directs him away from danger (keeping Will in line is like herding a cat). I can reflect upon each "work" day and see tangible things that I've accomplished. Lydia looks back on her exhausting day with our son and daughter on the way and can only pray that her labor of love will pay dividends in the long run. I think for now on I need to change my language to say its my wife that "works." I love you Lydia. Happy Mothers Day!

You are a very considerate man, Blake Ring. Lydia, Will, and Riley are very lucky to have you in their lives (as you are to have them in yours).
