Riley's Rough Day

Riley appeared to begin to not feel well on Sunday night. She ran a low-grade fever. Was unusually fussy. Clingy. Slept alot. Monday was the same. Monday night on the other hand?... Blake and I were awaked to her screams and he offered to go out and feed her. Within less then a minute he was barging in saying, "You have to feel how hot she is!" We took her temperature and were in horror when it came up 103.4! She ran a fever close to that the rest of the night and spent almost the entire night screaming. We had no idea what was wrong. I was probably the first person the pediatricians office spoke with this morning at 9.00. Even with her age, screaming, and high fever they couldn't get her in until 3 this afternoon! My good friend, Jess, came over to help me since Riley was basically a full time job today.

What I thought would be a fairly quick and simple visit for maybe an ear ache, turned into an hour and a half long visit with tests and shots. After a urine test(taken with a catheter) and a blood test(pricked finger) it was determined that my sweet, little 3 month old daughter has a urinary tract infection! YUCK! She was given 2 antibiotic shots(1 in each leg) to begin the healing process and after some overnight tests they will decide whether oral medication will be sufficient or more shots will be necessary. Please pray they won't be!

I snapped this picture with my phone while we waited 15 minutes after her shots to be sure she would not have an allergic reaction. She was exhausted after all of the poking and prodding! Praise the Lord that we have the knowledge to poke and prod though!

Riley is exhausted tonight from almost no sleep yesterday and a massive dose of antibiotics so Blake and I are hoping for a much better night! :) Though, I think we completely understand if it doesn't go well... We have bad nights too!

Oh my goodness! I would have freaked out! The first time Corbin got a fever that high, I was at the ER before the ped could call back lol.
I'm glad she's feeling better and she doesn't have to have more shots.
I know that was a scary experience for you! It's so hard to see your children suffering and not be able to fix it!

Lydia, our daughter Claire had this same problem when she was about 10 months old. Along with the fever she was throwing up a ton. They ended up sending her to Kosair for ultrasound and x-ray of her kidneys. They found out she had reflux in her kidneys causing this UTI. She has been on antibiotics for the past year and has not been sick or had a UTI once. We go back in a couple weeks for the same testing to see if she has grown out of all this. It is a scary thing to go thru, but God gives us dr, medicine, faith and rest to get thru it. I'll be praying for you and riley to heal quickly!
