Three Years of Marriage

"Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory. For the wedding of the Lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready."
Revelation 19: 6b - 7

On June11, 2005 at the Alumni Chapel of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, I became Lydia Grace Ring... Blake and I were married at 6:00 pm in a ceremony led by Dr. Jeff Elieff and my father, Dr. Bill Cook. The verse above served at theme of our wedding - And expressed our desire to those that attended. Though never reaching the goal, we are striving to imitate the marriage of Christ with his bride the church.

As I think back to the day, my mind is filled with vivid and emotional memories. I remember never feeling an ounce calmer then on my wedding day - Even though it was debatable as to whether our reception sight would have working air on a muggy day that reached the 90's. I remember telling myself all day not to cry my way through the entire wedding, but being so excited when it began that I did not cry a single tear. I remember glancing at my 2 brothers throughout the ceremony and watching them cry in my place. I recal standing behind of doors at the back of the chapel as the flower girl made her way down the rather long aisle and my dad joking that he could pull the car up if I desired... But then hearing him tell Blake 10 minutes later how proud he was to have him as his son in law - And knowing that he meant it.

The music... The flowers... The lace... Everything was exactly as I wanted it. And I would have given it all up. After 8 months of planning and preparing, on that day, all that mattered was that I was becoming Lydia Grace Ring...

And 3 year later... My love for my husband only grows deeper. How gracious is the God that I serve...
