The Cost...

Ok. So I am partial on this subject. I'll admit it. I am passionate about adoption. I am passionate about attempting to mirror the the grace and love God lavished on me... Adopting me, bringing me into his family.

I am continually shocked by the amount of times that I hear people say, "We would love to adopt, but we could never afford to do that" or "I would never go into debt for a child". What makes a home with a morgage that much more special then a child from the other side of town whose mother chose life instead of abortion? What makes a car payment on a car that will depreciate the moment you drive it off of the lot worth more then a precious baby boy born 5 weeks early in Guatemala... to a woman that made $17 a month?

We went into debt for that baby boy in Guatemala. We scrimped and saved and made payments on him long after he was in our arms. And he was worth every penny. I would pay him off for the rest of my life if that is what it took. Following God's call is seldom the easy road. It seldom costs nothing.

Several of us involved in Ninth and O's adoption ministry Rosalynn's Hope met last night. One of the main topics of our discussion was fundraising. We would love to raise the numbers in Rosalynn's Hope account in order to help more families bring home orphans. We know that there are so many that are answering the call to adopt with no idea where the money will come from. It is our prayer that we can be an encouragement... spiritually, as well, as financially.

Do you have ideas for us? We have a few thoughts and ideas in the works for fundraisers for the ministry, but I would love to hear things that you have done or seen! Just leave your thoughts in a comment!

I had some precious time with Will today. As I watched him play with his animals, I was reminded that we are not often rewarded by things that cost us nothing. Often the greatest rewards come from that which cost us the most. And yet, when I look at Will, I will tell you that he was a bargain. He is worth far more then we paid.

You are so right, the cost is completely worth it. Buying back souls is costly and extravagant. I am reminded of King David in 2 Samuel 24:24 when he says, "I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God which cost me nothing " What an awesome thing to sacrifice money, which does not fulfill or satisfy, for a soul who could one day spend eternity with Jesus Christ. And in the mean time, be daily reminder of God's unconditional love, grace, and sacrifice for you and me.

WOW! Lovey post and so so true. I read quite a few blogs of mothers who have adopted and quite a few of them do fundraising on their blogs by auctioning/ raffeling items off a couple have even made t-shirts and sold them to raise the money. I know another person who has had a gold party and people have donated their gold jewelry and the money raised goes toward the adoption. Yard sales are a huge hit although they sometimes don't produce the money for the time and effort put into them another thought would be a kids consignment sale. I know that I make quite a bit of money selling my kids gently used clothing and toys; much more than I would in a yard sale.
I hope these ideas are helpful and wish you all the best of luck. God Bless!

I participated in a blog fundraiser a year ago for a girl who I didn't even know. First of all, let me say that I believe in adoption, and pray that God brings Adam to the same belief/conviction. With that said, when i saw a lady whose blog I follow mention a blog raffle/giveway to raise money to help a couple bring home their baby from Korea, I jumped right over to that site.

The way it worked was, she asked several sponsors (whether it be through cash donations for prizes, or people who homemade cute things) to donate items (all tax-deductible) for her fundraiser. She put together several huge prizes (entailed a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff per prize package), and displayed them on her blog.

The people making donations got so many tickets into the the drawing per $15 donation. If they posted about the fundraiser, they would get additional entries into the giveaway.

I think you could do something similar, or a church-wide silent auction or something, and do very well.

P.S. I actually won one of the prize packages, and now have a friendship with a girl, my age, who I probably would never have known but for that. She ended up raising a few thousand dollars, I think, and they brought home their little boy from S. Korea just over a year ago! Hope this helps!

Okay, thanks for making me cry. :) Blaming the pregnancy hormones. So thankful for your passion towards adoption and the way God uses it in you to minister to others. Can't wait to see who and how God adds to your family! :)

Also, dining room looks FANTASTIC. Love the light fixture. I'm sure it looks even better in person.
